Working Week of 4.5 Days: UAE Introduces Work-Life Balance

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) became the first gulf state to introduce a working week of four-and-a-half days. It shifted its weekend from Friday-Saturday to Saturday-Sunday, in a bid to enhance work-life balance and improve competitiveness and productivity of the working professionals.

The announcement came on Tuesday 7th December 2021, from the UAE Government which wishes to improve on its own economic competitiveness. Currently the weekend is in between Thursday night and Friday night. But once the new policy comes into effect, that is, from 1st January 2022, the weekend will commence from Friday at 12 pm local time and will be running until Sunday night. While the new working days of the week will start at 7.30 am in the morning and will end at 3.30 pm, from Monday to Thursday, except for Friday, when it will be a half day from 7.30 am to 12 pm.
