Tropical Storm Alex Headed Towards Bermuda Expected to Bring Heavy Rainfall

Tropical Storm Alex, the 1st name storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, gained force on Sunday as it is now headed towards Bermuda after causing floods and killing 3 people in Cuba.

U.S National Hurricane Center said at 11 a.m. Alex had maximum sustained winds of 105 and was centred about 640 kms west of Bermuda late Sunday afternoon.

The storm was moving to the east-northeast at a brisk 44 kph and was expected to pass near or just north of Bermuda on Monday, a tropical storm was in effect there. According to Forecasters it could bring 2 to 3 inches of rain across Bermuda beginning late Sunday and into Monday.

“This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation. Traveling during these conditions is not recommended. It’s better to wait. Turn around, don’t drown, the city of Miami said in a tweet.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially began Tuesday and it is an unusual early start to the storm season but not unprecedented for Florida.
