Simple Interview Questions That Will Help You Choose the Ideal Remote Worker for Your team

Choose the Ideal Remote Worker for Your Team

In the new normal set-up, many business operations have adopted new and modified approaches when hiring people to work in their company. To be precise, business owners today have opted to hire remote workers for varying reasons, all of which are believed to be beneficial to their company’s growth.
This remote working arrangement has given a lot of job seekers the opportunity to finally land a good-paying job. It has also allowed them to find comfort at their own place of work, thus boosting their efficiency and productivity at doing their jobs.

What Does Working Remotely Mean?

What the remote working set-up requires is a kind of working in which workers virtually do all their work transactions with their boss and other co-workers. In other words, to work remotely means working outside a traditional office environment.
So, instead of daily commuting to be at their office desks, remote workers can just execute their tasks wherever they find convenient and comfortable. Even if workers can save at Hubstaff through availing their coupons, it’s incomparable to how much they can save when they are working remotely.
Yet as an employer, adjusting to this new working set-up may not be as easy as how the remote workers have handled it. Employers invest their time, effort, and financial resources in their workers, so it’s understandable why they need to be cautious and picky when it comes to who they should give the position to.

Questions to Ask When Hiring a Remote Worker

As an employer, you need to carefully choose the people who can be trusted and who are most qualified for the position. As a business owner also, reducing cost is very essential, and hiring remote workers is one way of doing it.
Thus, if you are one of those employers out there seeking for remote workers to join your company’s workforce, you may consider asking your applicants about these questions. These questions will help you identify who is qualified and ready for the job.

1. “Tell me something about yourself”

Do a quick background check or start the interview with this most common question. This question will allow the applicants to talk about their personal and professional background, and when they do, you can then identify their other qualities that are not stated in their resume.

2. How do you feel about the idea of working remotely?

This question will assess how your applicant will handle the inherent challenges embedded in a remote working set-up. This will help you determine if your applicant has got the essential qualities of a remote worker, such as flexibility, honesty, and dependability.

3. How do you identify which tasks need to be prioritized?

As mentioned earlier, flexibility is one great quality a remote worker should have, which can only be attained through time management. Hence, this question will allow you to assess if the applicant will still be efficient at his work without you checking on him from time to time.

4. How do you handle problems?

Knowing how your applicant will handle difficulties in work, especially that he will be working alone, is a very important piece of information that you as an employer should know beforehand. When interviewing the applicant, you can also create scenarios that involve difficult situations and ask the applicant what will be the best way to handle such difficulty.
Hiring a Remote WorkerAlong with your conversation, it is also important to identify if the applicant has good verbal and written communication skills. Since all conversations will be through emails and video calls, these qualities will surely be needed. Again, be sure to ask these questions so you’ll get a clear understanding of who your applicants are, and so you can also decide better as to who you are going to hire.
