How To Take Good Care of Your Electric Vehicle Batteries?

How To Take Good Care of Your Electric Vehicle Batteries?

Electric vehicle batteries may last hundreds of thousands of kilometers, and their durability continues to increase. Additionally, the price of EV batteries has decreased significantly. On average, electric vehicle batteries are warrantied for one hundred thousand miles for eight years.

Still, current Electric Vehicle batteries are lasting considerably longer – in some instances, close to half a million miles. The battery guarantee on Hyundai’s Kona Electric SUV is really lifetime. Hyundai also has an excellent video on prolonging the Kona Electric’s battery life.

Multiple surveys reveal that in 95% of the globe, Electric Cars (EVs) are currently cleaner than gasoline-powered vehicles and are growing better in terms of lifetime greenhouse gas emissions.

EVs are not a popular option among the general population. There might be a number of reasons behind this, including high purchase prices and poor understanding of the advantages of EVs. The common myth is that EVs are high-maintenance cars that demand much work to care for.

Tips To Take Care of An Electric Vehicle Battery:

·         Drive Your Car Often for Short Ranges

This tip should not be too challenging. Similar to gasoline or diesel vehicles, it is beneficial for the vehicle’s general health to take it for a drive on occasion. If your car has been seated on the driveway for too long, try taking it a short spin.

·         Maintain A Charging State of About 20% To 80%.

Don’t let your battery run low or overflowing. Instead, adjust the charging settings on your vehicle or car charger to maintain the charge at or above 20% and to around 80%.

Most EVs have enough range to get you through most of your daily or weekly errands. Unless you’re going on a really long journey, you probably won’t even need it completely charged.

·         Maintaining The Battery

The monsoon months may be harsh on an electric vehicle, so take extra care of it. Moisture corrodes mechanical components like battery connectors. It reduces battery life and strength. Check the battery and cover the car when not used to prevent this.

Charge the battery up to 80% based on your trip length. Don’t overcharge batteries. It is also good to leave the vehicle with limited or even no charge for a period of time, but not more than 15 consecutive days.

·         Use A Certified Battery Charger

You should use the charger that came with the automobile if possible. There are enough layers and protections to keep it safe and secure. Sparks, short circuits, and data loss may be minimized.

It is just as crucial as the rest of the vehicle’s components. It should be cleaned and dried regularly to keep it in good condition. Vehicles that run on electricity are pricey. It’s important to remember that if you’re spending a lot of money on an electric vehicle, you should also spend a bit more on maintaining it.

·         Be Careful When You Use Your Electric Car

Lithium batteries perform best when kept at room temperature. Most EVs can either cool or heat themselves if it’s too hot or cold. It does need a lot of effort. If you can, park inside the shade during the summer and in a garage during the winter.

·         Avoiding Deep Discharging – Below 20%

A shallow discharge is preferable to lithium-ion partial cycles. Not letting the battery level go below 20% is another approach to guarantee that you will always have enough power. For any unplanned journeys, you may keep your EV’s battery charged more often than just when you need it.

·         Moderate Acceleration

Smooth acceleration will assist save the battery from being overworked and drained.

·         Limit Charging at High Speed

Charging at home overnight instead of using a high-speed charger puts less stress on the batteries since it doesn’t put as much current through them all at once as the high-speed charger does. “Level 3” fast-charging stations (typically near restaurants and supermarkets) can charge an EV to 80% in roughly 30 minutes, conveniently fueling stops/meal breaks.

To Sum Up

Electric vehicle batteries have progressed swiftly – convenient and cost-effective ways to charge your EV are now being discussed. The invention of lithium-ion batteries has enabled vehicles to drive hundreds of miles on a single charge and survive hundreds of thousands of kilometers.

Volta Technology Limited provides continuous push and development beyond the bounds of the industry to produce ground-breaking battery technology for future generations. Check out the amazing batteries they provide.
