To obtain technical solutions for securing identity theft, automotive technicians are exploring every field of science. Recently two major companies have merged together for development of technology that implements ECG biometrics in automobiles for detecting identities.
A biometric electrocardiogram specialist and a software company that has expertise in signal processing and data conversion have merged together recently for development of this smart technology. This technology will allow the vehicles to uniquely authenticate the identities of the driver as well as the passengers through Artificial Intelligence.
Electrocardiogram aka ECG/ EKC is used to study the function of the heart of a patient through the pattern of the heart beat produced by the ECG machine. A 12-lead ECG has 10 electrodes which are placed on the chest of the patient’s body at various points. In growing era of Internet of Things (IoT), these tiny sensors that are implantable, wearable and portable are becoming ubiquitous.
To develop an effective and robust mechanism for accurate stress level identification, ECG is monitored through these minimally invasive wearable patches of sensors. These sensors detect the electrical changes due to depolarization of the skin during the pumping action of the heart and transmit the signals which are plotted in the form of electrocardiographs.
Now for application purpose in vehicles the generic ECG needs a little modification. The normal ECG devices are not compatible with the automobile circuit systems because their results can be manipulated by the noises generated in the vehicle. To solve this problem a two stage system of ECG is manufactured with a very high CMRR (Common Mode Rejection Ratio) which rejects the unnecessary noise signals before transmitting it to the transmitter.
Since every person’s electrocardiograph is unique due to the different heart orientations and size variations, this technology is now being implemented into automobiles to secure the vehicles from identity theft and grant a personalized experience to their users. Apart from that it will provide other significantly compelling solutions at hand such as immobilizer deactivation, infotainment, online ride payment as well as insurance payments.
This biometric technology is also capable of monitoring vital details of the driver’s wellness and readiness to drive. For assuring safety of the vehicle in traffic, the mental and physical conditions of the driver should be decently normal. The report created by the system displays his stress levels, drowsiness and intoxication levels if present. It can provide sufficiently enough information to decide if the driver is in stable health and thus conform to the road safety regulations.
